I Am an Activist: SAPPHO’s Sprouts: Remembering the 70s Lesbian Movement

‘They called us ‘SAPPHO’s Sprouts!’ is a reminiscence of the Adelaide 70s Lesbian Movement. Socialist and feminist lesbian activist Helen Bock’s life was greatly influenced by the writings of 70s lesbian feminist literature.

This included such greats as Patience & Sarahby Isabel Miller, Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown, Sisterhood is Powerful by Robin Morgan and The SCUM Manifesto by Valerie Solanas. As such, Helen has been out and proud all her life, always ready for the revolution! As a founding member of the Feast Festival, Helen is excited to share some of her stories with you.

I am an Activist – a series of floor talks by South Australian activists during South Australia’s History Festival 2018.
