The Women’s Suffrage League was formed at a public meeting in Gawler Place, Adelaide. Its first president was Sir Edward Stirling. Stirling was the first to submit a formal request for women’s suffrage to Parliament. He gave up the position of president in to Mary Colton in 1892. Mary Lee was secretary.
